In the first years of the twenty-first century, the trade in illegal drugs has grown exponentially in Spain, due in part to the well-organized international gangs that have sunk their roots into the country, exploiting it as an entry point into the rest of Europe. Spanish police face serious difficulties as they attempt to dismantle complex and many-faceted criminal networks.
